Endodontics
Endodontics is a specialized field of dentistry that focuses on the dental pulp and tissue surrounding the roots of one’s tooth. Endodontic treatment designed to preserve teeth by treating the pulp tissue inside of the tooth.
Inside every tooth lies a hollow space that has soft tissue otherwise known as pulp. Factors like tooth decay, cracks, or other reasons can result in the pulp getting irritated and can lead to infection. When the pulp becomes infected an endodontic treatment is necessary, if not then future complications will become prevalent.
Endodontic Treatment
The early stages of an endodontic procedure involve the use of x-rays and a a thorough diagnosis of the issue, which is followed by the development of a treatment plan. The actual procedure begins by isolating the tooth with a rubber dam to protect the rest of the patient’s mouth and throat from unwanted fluids. The compromised pulp is then carefully removed and the tooth is cleaned, filled, and sealed. Lastly, a crown will be added to the exterior of the tooth for added protection.
Maintaining good healthy dental hygiene is very important and is often overlooked. Having a healthy mouth will allow you to eat the foods you want and reduce the number of dental procedures you will need. That is why it is crucial to seek the proper care when addressing serious tooth issues. At McLean Family Dentist, we are experts in endodontic treatments and get you fixed up right away!
